PDO Thread Lift FAQs
What is PDO Threading?
PDO Threads are synthetic absorbable sutures composed of polydioxanone which stimulate collagen production, lifts and holds loose/sagging skin, and smooths skin, threads are absorbed within 4 to 6 months and will not leave a scar. A lifted appearance can be seen immediately following the treatment; however, the results will improve in the following days and weeks as the PDO stimulates neocollagenesis, which in turn produces collagen.
Polydioxanone has been used for more than 20 years in orthopedics, surgery, plastic surgery and ophthalmology. PDO threads have a high safety profile, complete absorption and minimal tissue reaction. The PDO thread generates tensing fibrosis in the surrounding tissue. When inserted correctly in the subcutaneous tissue, the risk for scarring is absent. Polydioxanone is a polymer of multiple repeating ether-ester units. It is obtained by ring-opening polymerization of the monomer p-dioxanone.
These monomers break down into water and carbon dioxide and are cutaneously absorbed.
Polydioxanone ( PDO ) thread is inserted into the subdermal tissue for temporary support of the face and body.
Barbed threads reposition, lift and secure static sagging skin. Smooth threads lift and stimulate neocollagensis.
Advanced PDO Threads rejuvenates, regenerates and improves the structure of the face without the need for surgery.
Is it safe?
No surgical procedure is without risk, but the level of risk is often down to the expertise and experience of the doctor carrying out your procedure. Thread lifts can cause minor side effects such as infection, bruising, swelling, tenderness, numbness and slight asymmetry.
Will it work for me?
The thread lift can be used to enhance and improve the appearance of a sagging neck, sagging cheeks and jowls and droopy eyebrows. You can personalize your treatment to suit your exact needs and your doctor will also make recommendations for improvements. The procedure can be tailored to suit your exact needs to ensure you are totally happy with the results.
How long does a thread lift take?
A typical thread lift takes as little as one hour to perform, but the length will depend on the number of threads the doctor uses and the areas being treated.
What is the downtime?
Once the procedure is complete you will be provided with aftercare instructions to follow. Most patients experience some mild swelling and bruises, but these are usually quick to settle. Recovery times are usually less than one week.
How long does it last?
A thread lift’s lasting power depends on the age of the patient at the time of procedure and how much sagging the thread lift has corrected. Many doctors report that the results last for anywhere between 1 1/2 – 2 years. To extend the results it is possible to have additional threads inserted and your doctor can advise you when this is required.
